BACKGROUND:
The Soap Box Derby is organized by the Greater Chicago Soap Box Derby Association. The races have occurred annually in Naperville for many years and no issues have been reported.
DISCUSSION:
The Soap Box Derby Races are scheduled to occur on April 30, May 1, June 4, (rain date of June 5), September 10-11, and October 8-9. Each event will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with an estimated 75 people in attendance at each race. The races require the temporary closure of Frontenac Road from Golfview Drive to Diehl Road from approximately 6:30 a.m. and will re-open no later than 6:00 p.m. each day.
As in the past, the Greater Soap Box Derby Association will notify all surrounding businesses of the event. Parking for participants has been secured at parking lots in the area. The event organizer is also requesting an amplifier permit for the event. The City will receive the required insurance prior to the issuance of the permit.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Greater Chicago Soap Box Derby Association is not eligible for SECA Grant funding so all costs associated with this event are billed to the event organizer.
