BACKGROUND:
The Naperville Fire Department (Fire) provides each firefighter with a complete set of structural firefighting gear as part of the complement of protective equipment. This protective equipment, known as turnout gear, is durable, fire-resistant clothing worn by firefighters while responding to fires and includes firefighting pants, a coast, a nomex hood and firefighting gloves. The equipment is used by every member which is directed by policy and supported by appropriate training, care, and maintenance standards and used on every fire and vehicle accident response.
DISCUSSION:
Fire will be purchasing firefighting gear for its new hires and replacement gear as outlined NFPA 1851 (selection, care and maintenance of structural firefighting PPE) for its current firefighters. The protective equipment is needed to provide protection to members while responding to structural firefighting incidents, incidents involving Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) environments, vehicle extrications, hazardous material incidents and extreme environments where emergency response is initiated.
Staff has identified an approved cooperative contract, Sourcewell Contract 032620-INO for the procurement of turn-out gear. The vendor will provide equipment, products, and/or services in accordance with the pricing, terms, and conditions stated therein from January 1, 2023 until December 31, 2023.

Firefighting gear is expensed to the account number listed below. A total of $139,600 has been submitted for gear in the 2023 budget. Pending Council approval, the requested award is expected to be within budget.
