body

DEPARTMENT:                     Community Services

SUBMITTED BY:                     Dawn Portner, City Clerk

Special Olympics is a global movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community, regardless of ability or disability.  It is the world’s largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities providing year-round training and activities to over five million participants in 172 countries.

The Advisory Commission on Disabilities (ACD) proposes that the City of Naperville proclaim a day in the fall of 2024 as “Naperville Special Olympics Day.” On this day, Special Olympics athletes will be provided with a tour of Naperville government facilities and meet with department directors, City Council members, and the Mayor.  Special Olympic athletes and volunteers will then be recognized at the City Council meeting and receive the proclamation. After the proclamation, a reception will be held at the Municipal Center for community partners and other civic organizations.

The City of Naperville will proclaim November 19, 2024, as Naperville Special Olympics Day.  If possible, this will include a tour of the Municipal Center meetings with department directors, and a Proclamation at the City Council meeting.
