BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:

BACKGROUND:
Unit 769 was reviewed and approved by the Fleet Services Manager for replacement in the 2026 budget. Equipment is scored for replacement based on four criteria: age, usage, condition, and repair costs. Recommending equipment be replaced requires a score of 28.0 or greater. Although Unit 769 scored 27.0, the unit no longer meets current pumping requirements.
DISCUSSION:
Unit 769 is a 2008 Gorman Rupp PA8B60-4045T trailer-mounted trash pump used by the Water Utilities - Collection and Pumping Division to maintain the City's sewer systems. The current pump was purchased in 2007 for emergency bypass pumping at the North Wastewater Pump Station and other large pumping sites throughout the City. Since that time, major upgrades have been made to these wastewater pump stations, increasing both the required flow rates and pumping heads. Due to its age and original design capacity, the existing 10" pump no longer meets the current pumping system curves needed to bypass large volumes of wastewater at higher heads. As a result, it cannot reliably keep pace with required flows during emergency conditions, which increases the risk of sanitary sewer overflows.
The retired equipment will be sold through one of the City's auction companies. The unit will be replaced with a Thompson 10JSCG trailer-mounted trash pump. The replacement pump has sufficient capacity and pumping head that are required to meet the upgraded system demands and ensure effective emergency bypass pumping. This will maintain regulatory compliance and protect public health and the environment.
