BACKGROUND:
Over the past year, the City has been working to bring consistency on the administration of Board and Commission meetings. Various changes to building access have also been implemented to improve security.
DISCUSSION:
The Municipal Center officially opens at 8:00 AM. Private security manages public access through the door in the first-floor lobby beginning at this time. The employee entrance is through the door on the lower level.
The Riverwalk Commission and the Planning, Design, and Construction (PDC) Committee Meetings have historically started at 7:30 AM. This start time is not consistent with current City policy as it presents a potential security concern as well as logistical challenges for public access to the meeting.
To address these concerns, the Riverwalk Commission and PDC Committee Meeting schedules need to be revised. To minimize the disruption to the Commissioner’s schedules, an adjusted meeting time of 8:15 AM on the existing meeting days (Commission meetings on the second Wednesday of the month and PDC Committee meetings eight days prior) is proposed. This new time can be implemented in a few months (March or April) to provide a transition period.
