TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY BOARD AGENDA ITEM

ACTION REQUESTED:
title

Approve a recommendation to establish a no parking restriction for mailboxes

body

DEPARTMENT:                     Transportation, Engineering and Development

SUBMITTED BY:                     Jazmin Vega, Transportation Project Manager

BACKGROUND:

The City of Naperville Municipal Code Section 11-2A-1 does not restrict parking in front of mailboxes.

The City has received a concern regarding vehicles parking in front of a homeowner’s mailbox during school pick up. The homeowner is concerned about vehicle parking obstructing the delivery of their mail.

In other local municipalities, ordinances have been established to restrict parking within a certain distance of a mailbox or during mailbox delivery hours to ensure mail carriers may access mailboxes.

DISCUSSION:

Staff recommends the approval of establishing a no parking restriction in front of mailboxes. There will be no signage unless staff finds appropriate and reasonable circumstances.
