BACKGROUND:
The City Council awarded Cooperative Contract 25-094 to Otis Elevator Company on March 18, 2025, with a completion date of December 31, 2025. The purpose of this contract is to perform work on City-maintained elevators as part of capital improvement project MB216, Elevator Modernization and Repair. This is the third year of a five-year plan that includes the installation of equipment on the elevators at the Police Department and Community Concert Center to enhance safety, improve performance, and ensure compliance with current building and ADA codes.
DISCUSSION:
This Change Order is requested to add funds for the installation of an Optishield door protection shield and closed loop door operator on the west elevator of the Van Buren parking facility. This work is similar in nature to what was approved in the original award for the elevators at the Police Department and Community Concert Center. Although originally planned to be completed in 2026, due to mechanical failure and parts obsolescence, the work at the Van Buren west elevator needs to be completed to restore service.
This service work is available on the OMNIA Cooperative Contract #2019001563, an approved contract with Otis Elevator Company.
The term of this contract is from the date of award to December 31, 2025.
