BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
N/A
BACKGROUND:
Unit 312 was reviewed and approved by the Fleet Economic Committee and Fleet Services Manager for replacement in the 2024 budget. Vehicles are scored for replacement based on four criteria: age, usage, condition and repair costs. Recommending a vehicle for replacement requires a score of 28.0 or greater. Unit 312 scored 44.40.
DISCUSSION:
Unit 312 is a 2005 E-One Typhoon Pumper Engine and is used daily by the Fire Department as a multi-purpose emergency response vehicle transporting personnel and equipment to fire and other emergency calls. While on a scene, the pumper engine can serve as a standalone water source to extinguish a fire, or it can be connected to a hydrant and pump water for longer duration firefighting activities. The vehicle is also equipped with advanced life support equipment and frequently responds to emergency medical calls. The vehicle serves as the primary response apparatus to all calls for service within its station district and must be capable of providing complete fire, EMS, and special hazard response and capable of housing equipment to mitigate all hazards.
Unit 312 will be replaced with a 2024 Pierce Enforcer Pumper. The unit is specified to maintain fleet and operational conformity.
The new vehicle is available on the Houston-Galveston Area Council Cooperative, an approved cooperative through MacQueen Equipment Group, Contract #FS12-19.
Using the City's specifications, MacQueen Equipment Group has quoted the Pierce Enforcer Pumper in the amount of $799,100; a cost breakdown is provided below.
