BACKGROUND:
The North Aurora Road reconstruction and widening project (CIP# SC033) will widen the pavement between Frontenac Road and Fairway Drive from one lane in each direction to two lanes in each direction with a flush median. A five-foot wide sidewalk is included along portions of the north side of the road and an eight-foot shared use path will be constructed along the south side of the road throughout the project limits. The total length of this roadway segment (Frontenac Road to Fairway Drive) is approximately 0.9 miles. The Naperville Township Road District has jurisdiction of North Aurora Road between Enterprise Court and Country Glen Drive (approximately 850 feet in length).
The estimated construction cost for the project was $11,200,000. Federal Surface Transportation Program Funds will be used to pay for $6,000,000 of construction cost with the local share being $5,200,000.
On November 19, 2019, the City Council approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for construction of this project (File 19-093). The City Council also adopted resolution 19-044 (File 19-1094) appropriating this dollar amount to cover the City's and Township's estimated portion of the construction cost. Of the $5,200,000, the City's share was estimated at $4,810,400. The Township's share was estimated at $389,600.
