BACKGROUND:
The Electric Utility’s Distribution Operation Team is responsible for maintaining the City’s overhead and underground electric distribution system. In addition to City crews, the Electric Utility also hires contractors to assist with this work.
On December 5, 2023, City Council awarded Contract 23-152 to Meade Electric (Meade) for a one-year term with two option years. ECC was the second lowest bidder. Projects associated with this contract include underground substation work, directional boring, and fiber installations.
DISCUSSION:
This change order is requested to award Electric Conduit Construction (ECC) as a second contractor to Contract 23-152.
Meade is performing well, but the Electric Utility would like to add a second contractor in case there is work that Meade cannot complete in the timeframe the City needs. ECC’s unit prices are comparable to Meade's. Most of the work will continue to be performed by Meade; ECC will supplement the contract.
No additional funds are requested as part of this change order.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This change order adds a vendor to an already existing contract, there is no direct fiscal impact associated with this award.
