BACKGROUND:

The City’s new public safety radio system is expected to go live in the fourth quarter of 2026. As part of finalizing the system’s talk group templates, staff identified key opportunities to enhance radio interoperability with neighboring agencies. This request is aligned with ongoing efforts to eliminate radio communication barriers and promote operational efficiency across jurisdictional boundaries.

DISCUSSION:

The proposed intergovernmental agreements with Will County and Western Will County Communication Center (WESCOM) will provide direct radio access to several agencies within Will County, including Bolingbrook Fire/Police, Romeoville Fire/Police, Plainfield Fire/Police, the Will County Sheriff’s Office, and Will County Emergency Management Agency. Improved communication with these agencies will strengthen mutual aid efforts, enhance coordination during large-scale incidents, and promote seamless integration across jurisdictions.
