BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
N/A
BACKGROUND:
Unit 761 was reviewed and approved by the Fleet Services Manager for replacement in the 2025 budget. Equipment is scored for replacement based on four criteria: age, usage, condition and repair costs. Recommending heavy equipment for replacement requires a score of 28.0 or greater. Unit 761 scored 27.10. The unit is in poor condition with operational and safety issues.
DISCUSSION:
Unit 761 is a 2016 Case 590SN backhoe-loader used by the Water Utilities - Repair & Excavation Division for excavating and moving materials.
The current unit will be traded into West Side Tractor for $25,000 as part of the purchase of the new unit, which is in line with recent auction values for similar units. The unit will be replaced with a 2025 John Deere 410P backhoe loader. Attachments include multiple sizes of buckets and pallet forks for safer material movement.
The new backhoe loader is available on the Sourcewell Cooperative, an approved cooperative through John Deere, Contract #011723-JDC. West Side Tractor Sales is the local authorized dealership. Using the City's specifications, West Side Tractor Sales has quoted the backhoe loader in the amount of $185,490.79, which includes the trade-in credit; a cost breakdown is provided below.
