TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY BOARD AGENDA ITEM

ACTION REQUESTED:
title

Approve a recommendation to modify parking restrictions in the Historic District

body

DEPARTMENT:                     Transportation, Engineering and Development

SUBMITTED BY:                     Sydney Smith, Transportation Project Manager

BACKGROUND:

The City was investigating an unrelated traffic request in the Historic District and identified discrepancies between signed parking restrictions in the field and parking restrictions in the municipal code. Staff also identified redundant or conflicting ordinances within the code. The Historic District is bounded by Washington Street to the west, 4th Avenue to the north, Huffman Street to the east, and Chicago Avenue to the south.

DISCUSSION:

City staff investigated these issues and modified the municipal code to be consistent with signed parking restrictions in the field.

Many of the ordinances for the Historic District were last modified in the 1990’s when conditions in the neighborhood were different. Parking restrictions have since been modified in the field without being updated in the code.

If parking issues occur, it is necessary for the municipal code to back up signed parking restrictions for enforcement. These proposed modification would not impact the day-to-day life of residents, but would make it easier to enforce parking restrictions.

Attached are maps of parking restrictions in the municipal code before the proposed modifications and after the proposed modifications.
