SISTER CITIES COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM

ACTION REQUESTED:
title

Begin discussion of the roles and responsibilities of the Sister Cities Commission and Sister Cities Foundation

body

DEPARTMENT:                     City Manager’s Office

SUBMITTED BY:                     Marcie Schatz, Assistant to the City Manager

BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
NA

BACKGROUND:

The City Council discussed the future and scope of the Sister Cities Commission at the December 5, 2023, meeting.  As part of the motion on agenda item O2., the City Council directed to “define transparent distinctions between the roles of the Sister Cities Commission and the Sister Cities Foundation.”

DISCUSSION:

At its April 10th meeting, the Sister Cities Commission held a constructive discussion on appropriate activities moving forward.  The attached document attempts to capture that discussion and serves as a preliminary list of defined roles for both the Commission and the Foundation.

Sister Cities Foundation representatives have been unable to meet but did provide feedback and suggestions on the role of the Foundation that is included in the draft document. A meeting with the Foundation is planned for later this month.

After Commission deliberation of the draft document, staff will bring back a final list of roles and responsibilities for formal adoption at the August meeting.
