BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
NA
BACKGROUND:
Edward Hospital/Endeavor Health is a major contributor to the South Extension of the Riverwalk project. There have been discussions with leadership at the hospital about recognizing the hospital’s history and contribution at the plaza located at Washington Street and Martin Avenue.
DISCUSSION:
Attached is a preliminary sketch of what the plaza could look like. The overall intent is to keep the entry point consistent with the rest of the Naperville Riverwalk so when those familiar with the Riverwalk drive or walk by they recognize it as the Naperville Riverwalk. However, once you enter and go toward the river it would be identified as the hospital’s plaza or overlook.
Attached is a conceptual drawing that we are currently talking with the hospital leadership about. Some of the elements currently being considered on the east side of the plaza include:
1. A contrasting yet complimentary brick pattern, similar to what was installed at the Youth Plaza just east of Eagle Street
2. Commemorative identification on the railing overlooking the river
3. A commemorative plaque or sign that narrates the history of the hospital located on the east side of the planting bed
This is simply being shared with the Riverwalk Commission as preliminary information at this time. Further information will be shared as the scope narrows down and decisions are made by the hospital leadership.
