BACKGROUND:
The Northeast Waterworks standpipe was originally constructed in 1966. The pump station and generator room were constructed in 1982. The pressure adjusting station (PAS) 15 water connection, chlorine system, and SCADA were constructed in 1991. Because the different systems in this station were built piecemeal over decades, system integration has always been an issue. In addition, many of the station assets, such as the generator, PAS 15 water connection, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and chlorine system are in poor condition and experience decreased reliability.

In February 2022, the City Council awarded 2022 Northeast Waterworks Phase I Improvements to Dahme Mechanical Industries and included the replacement of the generator and chlorine system. Currently, the Phase I project is under construction.

In April 2023, the City issued Bid 23-021, Northeast Water Works Improvements Phase II. This project is the continuous improvement of Phase I and includes the rehabilitation of the PAS 15 water connection station, installation of related conduits, wires, and painting of the PAS 15 water connection station and chlorine rooms.

During the design for Phase II, it was discovered that five existing Baldor VFDs were in need of repair. However, due to the elimination of the Baldor VFDs line and the unavailability of the parts, they will need to be replaced instead of repaired. The replacement of VFD#1 to VFD#5 and associated electrical wires/conduits has been added to the scope of Phase II.
