BACKGROUND:
The City's data network managed by the Information Technology (IT) Department consists of layers of routers and switches.
Core switches are at the center of the network and operate at the highest speeds and have the greatest capacity for managing and processing data traffic. The core switches possess important capabilities to examine data traffic for managing network performance, and for managing cyber security risks.
The City's current core switches are old which limits their performance, their ability to manage and process network traffic, and, of critical concern, their inability to support new cyber security features. Several of these switches were replaced in 2022.
DISCUSSION:
The IT Department is seeking approval to procure two new Cisco Nexus Core Switches with associated software licenses, maintenance, and support.
Staff has identified an approved cooperative contract, OMNIA Partners, (TDSynnex) #OMNIA-R200803, through Sentinel Technologies, Inc. for this procurement.
The maintenance and support services for these switches will be for three years starting upon the order being placed.
FISCAL IMPACT:

Replacement core switches and associated support services are expensed to the account numbers identified below. The 2024 budget included $30,000 to replace the switches and $412,000 as part of the software/hardware maintenance account for support services related to the CISCO Smartnet portfolio of items.
