BACKGROUND:
The City Council awarded Contract 22-128 to Civiltech Engineering, Inc. on May 17, 2022, with an anticipated completion date of April 30, 2023. The purpose of this contract, Phase 2 of the Downtown Streetscape Project, is to reconstruct portions of Downtown Naperville to the Downtown Streetscape Standards that were approved by City Council in June 2019. These standards aim to enhance the pedestrian environment, improve compliance with accessibility requirements, and improve safety in the downtown area. This project was also fueled by the need to repair and replace aging utilities, as well as reconstruct the roadways.
This phase of the project aims to rebuild Washington Street between Chicago Avenue and Benton Avenue and the east side of Main Street, just south of Van Buren Avenue. The construction, which is tentatively scheduled to begin in summer of 2023, includes utility repair and upgrades, streetscape modernization, and complete road reconstruction.
DISCUSSION:
This change order is requested to increase the project scope to include graphical renderings. For this project, three options are being considered for the reconstruction of the streetscape area. These renderings will be used to visually communicate the three streetscape improvement options to project stakeholders.
