On August 6, 2026 the Transportation Advisory Board approved a recommendation to establish two-way stop control at the intersection of Rosinweed Lane and Hawkweed Drive. Approved (8-0). Staff concurs.
BACKGROUND:
Hawkweed Drive is a north-south roadway that was initially platted in the South Pointe subdivision in the early 2000's. It is one and a half blocks long with a northern terminus at South Pointe Park and the southern terminus that stubbed for future connection when the Polo Club property was developed.
When the City Council approved the Polo Club development in late 2022, the Annexation Agreement specified that the Hawkweed Drive connection would be constructed, but a temporary gate would be installed to prevent construction traffic from cutting through South Pointe.
The Agreement stipulated that the gate would be removed and Hawkweed Drive could be open to all traffic after the first of the following three items occurred:
1. Completion of the Initial Development of the Polo Club, with Initial Development being defined as the first 397 residential units.
2. Completion of the long-term 119th Street improvements
3. Five years from the date of the approval of the first final PUD or final subdivision plat for the Polo Club
DISCUSSION:
When subdivisions approach build-out and the streets have been turned over to the City for maintenance, staff evaluates the area to establish basic right-of-way controls. The Polo Club is not yet complete and the gate on Hawkweed Drive will be removed before an evaluation can occur.
