BACKGROUND:
As part of Celebration 2000 a commemorative wall and labyrinth were installed near the Riverwalk Amphitheater in 1999. Due to structural issues the wall was replaced with a better wall in 2010 when that section of the Riverwalk was reconstructed.

The labyrinth at the base of the amphitheater is nice, however the contrast between the two different color bricks was not that great when installed and has faded to the point of not much contrast today. About ten years ago an interested company reached out to the City requesting that we clean and reseal the pavers to properly restore the labyrinth. Based on our research at that time we did not feel that the restoration was significant enough to justify the cost and the ongoing cleaning and sealing in future years. Below is a picture of the current labyrinth.



DISCUSSION:
We have been contacted again by a group interested in restoring the labyrinth. This time they are proposing to not only clean and seal the labyrinth but also stain the darker-colored brick so that the contrast is greater and lasts longer. Below is a picture of a recently restored labyrinth followed by before and after photos of a restored labyrinth.




The individuals that contacted us estimated that this work could be completed at a cost between $10,000 and $20,000. Ongoing maintenance would consist of cleaning and sealing the pavers every three to five years; re-staining should not be needed.
