BACKGROUND:
The other related items to the North Aurora Road project on the City Council agenda are:
* 19-1093, Adopt a resolution approving the local-public agency agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation for the construction engineering services and construction of North Aurora Road between Frontenac Road and Fairway Drive
* 19-1094, Adopt a resolution to appropriate funds for the Reconstruction and Widening of North Aurora Road
The section of North Aurora Road between Pennsbury Lane (1,500 feet west of the EJ&E Railroad in Aurora) and Fairway Drive (west of IL Route 59) is the only section of this road with a single lane in each direction for several miles to the east and west, creating a bottleneck. Widening the section of North Aurora Road between Pennsbury Lane and Frontenac Road is included separately with the underpass improvement project (CIP Project #BR005). Construction of the railroad bridge project is anticipated for 2022 to 2023. Construction of the road widening project is scheduled for 2020 to 2021. The total length of this roadway segment (Frontenac Road to Fairway Drive) is approximately 0.9 miles. Naperville Township has jurisdiction of North Aurora Road between Enterprise Court and Country Glen Drive (approximately 850 feet in length). The existing traffic exceeds the capacity of the current roadway. Over the next 20 years, traffic volume is expected to reach nearly 30,000 vehicles per day.
