BACKGROUND:
In July 2024, the Transportation, Engineering, and Development Business Group (TED) issued Bid 24-067, 2024 Trip Hazard Removal - Fall Project, to obtain contractor services to correct substandard sidewalk conditions at various locations throughout the City. This project creates a safer walking environment by removing vertical differentials between sidewalk squares along selected streets. It also provides a more cost-effective and sustainable option for addressing these sidewalk issues, compared to complete replacement.

ASTI has been the low bidder for this project in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Work previously performed has been completed to the satisfaction of the City.

Staff recommends awarding work to ASTI Sawing Inc., the lowest responsive bidder. The final completion date of this project is June 2, 2025.

Trip hazard removal work is being performed as part of the Sidewalk and Curb Maintenance Program (MP004). In 2024, $845,000 was budgeted for MP004 in the Capital Projects Fund with an additional $100,000 in the Downtown Maintenance Fund.
