BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
N/A

BACKGROUND:

Unit 339 was reviewed and approved by the Fleet Economic Committee and Fleet Services Manager for replacement in the FY2025 budget. Vehicles are scored for replacement based on four criteria: age, usage, condition and repair costs. Recommending a vehicle for replacement requires a score 28.0 or greater. Unit 339 scored 30.56.

The vehicle will be delivered two years from date of order.

DISCUSSION:

Unit 339 is a 2013 International MedTec ambulance used by the Fire Department to provide patient care and transport 24 hours per day for medical emergency calls.

The retired vehicle will be retained and used to replace Unit 385. Unit 385 is a 2006 International MedTec that has been retained since 2018 and used as a rehabilitation/cooling unit. Unit 385 will be sold at auction.

Unit 339 will be replaced with a 2024 Horton ambulance on a Ford F550 chassis. The unit is specified to maintain fleet and operational consistency.

The new ambulance is available on the Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC), an approved cooperative, through Foster Coach Sales, Inc. contract #174. Using the City’s specifications, Foster Coach Sales, Inc. has quoted the ambulance in the amount of $346,364.

A cost breakdown is provided in the table below:

 Original Price

Less Cooperative Discount

Net Price

$ 350,964

$ 4,600

$ 346,364

The vehicle will be delivered two years from date of order.

In addition to the cost for the ambulances, moving forward, the City will be required to replace the Stryker Power Cot systems to fully outfit the vehicle for service. There are two options to replace the Power cot system:

1.            Procure the system and have Foster Coach install it in the Unit or

2.            Foster Coach procures and installs the system

The City’s plan is to proceed with the first option for an estimated $76,000 which will save an estimated $11,694.

Additional cost to fully outfit the vehicle replacements will continue to be budgeted in future years to ensure the entire cost of vehicle replacements are accommodated within the budget.

FISCAL IMPACT:

CIP #: VE25-339
