BACKGROUND:
In 2022, The Police Department’s budget included a multi-year project to update key spaces within the facility and the project began with the installation of security fencing around the police department campus. The project continued in 2023 with the remodel to the patrol sergeants’ and commander’s work areas. That project continues with the renovation of the Investigations work area in 2024.
The department is seeking to retain the services of a qualified and experienced consultant to perform a Space Needs Assessment. The goal of the assessment is to identify options for the improved use of the Investigations area.
In 2018, the Department of Public Works completed a Request for Qualifications 18-027 for architectural and engineering services. Two consultants were short-listed as a result of this process. The initial term of the contract was two years and may be extended up to a total term of six years. The consultants are Klubler Inc. and Legat Architects.
DISCUSSION:
The PD solicited quotes from the short-listed vendors to provide pricing for the Investigation remodel project. Under previous contracts, firms were reluctant to respond on a case-by-case basis due to their high work volume. This method will increase the PD’s ability to retain an experienced consultant to perform the necessary space needs assessment in a timely manner.
