BACKGROUND:
The Bonnema Woods Lift Station, installed in 1997, consists of a wet well, valve well, two five-horsepower submersible sanitary pumps, one backup generator, and one motor control center. Due to the age of the equipment, the lift station now requires rehabilitation to ensure the safe and reliable conveyance of wastewater.
To support the City’s priority of maintaining reliable and safe infrastructure, electric service, and water/wastewater systems, the Water Utilities issued Bid 25-205 in September 2025 for the Bonnema Woods Lift Station Rehabilitation Project.
The scope of work includes replacing the existing sewage pumps, guide rails, automatic transfer switch, associated cables, conduits, control and monitoring systems. Additionally, the project also includes installing a new mixer, three variable frequency drives (VFDs), a new motor control center, necessary earthwork and concrete pads, as well as constructing a new pigging station and applying protective coatings to the existing wet well and valve vault.

Based on reference checks, Airy’s, Inc. has adequate experience in lift station rehabilitation and has successfully completed similar projects for other municipalities.
Staff recommends awarding the Bonnema Woods Lift Station Rehabilitation to Airy’s Inc. as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for the procurement of construction services, as defined by Section 1-9B-7 of the Procurement Code (RBO-qualified).
The substantial completion date of this project is December 17, 2026.

The Bonnema Woods Lift Station Rehabilitation will be charged to the account listed below. It is part of the Water Capital Improvement Program, with a budget of $950,000 for 2026 and $250,000 for 2027, pending Council approval. The requested award, including contingency funds, is in line with this budget.
