BACKGROUND:
The Water Utilities South Waterworks site is responsible for distributing Lake Michigan water from the DuPage Water Commission into the City’s water distribution system. South Waterworks was constructed in 1987 and continues to operate with much of the original equipment. The site houses a 2.5 MG ground storage tank, 500,000-gallon elevated tank, three vertical turbine booster pumps and an emergency standby well. Improvements are needed to the existing pumping equipment, as each of the three pumps are showing significant signs of deterioration, as well as the valving and electrical equipment.
The Water Utilities issued RFP 19-055, South Waterworks Improvements in January 2019 for design engineering for the operating equipment and recommendations for equipment, specifically the pumps and valves.
In July 2019, the Water Utilities issued Bid 19-216, South Waterworks Improvements, for construction work consisting of installation of three vertical turbine pumps and replacement of all associated piping, replacement of chlorination equipment, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) improvements, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) improvements, roof access improvements and painting the pump room at the site.
