BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:

BACKGROUND:
The Department of Public Works (DPW) is responsible for the exterior brick repair/replacement and tuck-pointing on all City facilities. Most repair projects involve tuck-pointing mortar joints. CIP project Masonry-Commuter Station (#MB170) was established to complete the brick repair and tuck-pointing work associated with the 5th Avenue Burlington Commuter Station.
DISCUSSION:
In-house staff does not have the expertise required to complete the masonry construction.
F. H. Paschen, our Job Order Contractor has access to specialty trades, including masons, to complete this type of project and have demonstrated quality workmanship on prior projects. As such, staff determined this project would be best completed through the JOC program. The proposal by F. H. Paschen produced very favorable prices and we therefore recommend completing the entire building.
The repair work will consist of restoration of the façade masonry and adjacent soffit and fascia. The exterior of the commuter station was identified by the JOC contractor and City staff as being in poor condition. The project scope includes removing damaged masonry joints, replacing deteriorated bricks, and restoring adjacent soffit and fascia.
FISCAL IMPACT:
CIP #MB170 - Masonry - Commuter Station
Tuck-Point Masonry at Burlington Commuter Station is expensed to the Capital Improvement Program account below. This work is related to MB170, Tuck-Point Masonry at Burlington Commuter Station, for which $125,000 has been budgeted in CY2017. The requested award of $101,153 is within the budgeted amount for this expense.
