BACKGROUND:
The Water Utilities’ Southeast Waterworks pump station, located at 1699 Ranchview Drive, houses three booster pumps. Boosters pumps provide sufficient flows and pressure to the City’s water distribution system for domestic and emergent fire flow usage. The original three booster pumps were installed approximately 40 years ago.
In 2018, booster pumps 1 and 2 were replaced. Currently, booster pump 3 is no longer operational and out of service. Due to the age of pump 3 and condition of the internal operating parts, staff has determined that the pump needs to be replaced. The new pump will ensure Southeast Waterworks has adequate pump capacity to provide sufficient fire flows to the service area. The project cannot be deferred because of fire protection safety concerns.
In March 2020, the Water Utilities issued Bid 20-072, Southeast Waterworks Improvements, to replace water booster pump 3. The work also includes replacing existing control valves, butterfly valves, pressure gauges and piping in the valve room.
