BACKGROUND:
The purpose of the Comprehensive Sidewalk Plan is to improve walkability throughout the City.
In July 2023, an amended three-year New Sidewalk Program was approved by the City Council. This award is for the first year of the program. In August 2023, the Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Business Group issued Bid 23-205, 2023 New Sidewalk Improvements Program. In addition to the new sidewalk locations, this contract includes modification of the existing sidewalk on the southeast corner of 6th Street and Webster Street to address an accessibility issue. The sidewalk will be significantly lowered to replace stairs in the public right-of-way with an accessible ramp.
Locations were selected based on analysis of the existing gaps throughout the City. The gross length of improvements is 3,242 feet (0.61 miles). The locations consist of:
1. Location #1: Royal St George Dr & Bauer Road
2. Location #2: West St & Spring Ave
3. Location #3: Hillside Rd & Sleight Street
4. Location #4: 6th Street & Webster St
5. Location #5: Washington Street - East Side - Osler to Gartner

The substantial completion date is May 15, 2024, and the contract closeout date is November 30, 2024. Prioritization of Locations #5 (Washington Street) and Location #4 (6th Street & Webster Street) to be completed in 2023.

The 2023 New Sidewalk Improvements Program is expensed to the Infrastructure account listed below. The work is related to CS006, New Sidewalks Improvements, for which $300,000 was budgeted in 2023 and $350,000 is budgeted for 2024. The requested award is below the budgeted amount for this expense.
