BACKGROUND:
Unit 273 was reviewed and approved by the Fleet Services Manager for replacement in the 2025 budget. Vehicles are scored for replacement based on four criteria: age, usage, condition and repair costs. Recommending a vehicle for replacement requires a score of 28.0 or greater. Unit 273 scored 40.54.
DISCUSSION:
Unit 273 is a 2006 International 2600 semi-truck used by the Department of Public Works - Operations Division to transport trailers and equipment between work sites throughout Naperville. The current semi-truck will be sold through one of the City’s auction service providers.
The unit will be replaced with a 2026 Peterbilt 567 semi-truck to maintain fleet & operational consistency. The new unit is available on the Sourcewell Cooperative, an approved cooperative through JX Peterbilt, Contract #032824-PMC. The Cooperative has an expiration date of July 9, 2028. Using the City’s specifications, JX Peterbilt has quoted the semi-truck in the amount of $189,591.43; a cost breakdown is provided below.

Heavy equipment replacement purchases for the Department of Public Works are expensed to the Vehicle and Equipment account listed below. The department allocated $175,600 to replace Unit 273 in the 2025 budget. Although the award exceeds the budget amount by nearly $14,000 it is anticipated this award can be accommodated within the 2025 budget. Staff will continue to monitor spending and adjust as needed throughout the year.
