BOARD/COMMISSION REVIEW:
NA
BACKGROUND:
The Planning, Design and Construction (PDC) Committee was reviewing the plans for the improvements to the Horse Trough Fountain at their January 2, 2024 meeting. One design element that was brought up and caught the attention of all members was the overall depth of the fountain. Fountain Technologies had suggested consideration be given to installing grating just below the water surface to reduce the overall depth of the fountain.
The PDC requested additional information on this issue; specifically, if Fountain Technologies could provide any pictures of other fountains that have a grating system similar to this installed along with any other measures that could be considered.
DISCUSSION:
Attached are pictures of the existing Horse Trough Fountain that were taken by the Naperville Park District on January 2, 2024.
Also attached are three pictures of various types of grates provided by Engineering Resource Associates and Fountain Technologies. There are three different pictures of two different types of stainless-steel grates along with PVC and stone-covered grates. At the meeting the commission should discuss the pros and cons of the various different grates; and the reasons why certain types are preferred.
That information will then be presented to the full Riverwalk Commission for their consideration and decision at their February 14, 2024 meeting.
